Tickets are now on sale for the Shreveport Little Theatre production of “The Addams Family.”

The macabre new musical comedy features the book by “Jersey Boys” writers Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice with music and lyrics by Drama Desk Award winner Andrew Lippa.

“Addams Family” tells a new story about this goofy yet ghoulish family.

In it, Wednesday Addams has grown up now and fallen in love with a “normal” young man from a respectable family. The young man’s normalcy is problem No. 1, but Wednesday implores her father, Gomez, not to tell her mother, Morticia, about the boy. The table is set for conflict when the Addams family hosts a dinner for the young man and his parents.

The musical will be directed by Dick King, with musical direction by Ruben Reyes and choreography by Ginger Folmer.

Rocky Maddox will star as the harried Gomez Addams.

Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. Sept.18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 27 and at 2 p.m. Sept. 21, 28 at the playhouse at 812 Margaret Place.

All tickets are $25. For reservations or further information, call 424-4439 or visit SLT’s box office, open noon to 4 p.m. weekdays. Online ticket sales are available at www.shreveportlittletheatre.com.

BPCC Tradition

Bossier Parish Community College released its 2014-15 theater season last week. The season contains a musical, two dramas and a children’s’ show, which is a BPCC tradition.

It begins with the musical “A Year with Frog and Toad” previously described in this space. It opens at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 16.

Then, beginning March 19, the Cavalier Players will stage “Nicholas Nickleby,” a cavalcade of Charles Dickens characters and situations. It’s the tale of young Nicholas as he finds his way to manhood and adult responsibility.

It will be family entertainment on stage beginning April 10 when the Players present the classic tale of “Snow White.”

Former BPCC Theatre department head and noted children’s storyteller Stephen Slaughter has put his own unique twist to the story. There will be strange characters, comic situations, colorful antics, and a couple of new characters that the Players insist will “make you laugh until your sides hurt.”

Wrapping up the season is another drama, “The Turn of the Screw,” a tale of suspense, horror and repressed sexuality, opening July 24.

In addition to the main stage productions, BPCC will offer a two more opportunities for local audiences to see the college’s talent.

On Dec, 3 and 4, the annual Bossier City/BPCC Christmas show at the Bossier Civic Center. The holiday themed event will feature BPCC performers from the Cavalier Show Band, the BPCC Choir, the BPCC Cheerleaders, the Ladies in Gold, as well as other BPCC performing groups.

In addition, the Fall and Spring Festivals of One Act Plays will showcase short productions generally suitable for more mature audiences. Dates for the festivals are Nov. 11 and April 28. Admission to the festivals is free.

Dr. Ray Scott Crawford, dean of communication and performing arts, announced ANECA Federal Credit Union has agreed to sponsor the troupe for another year. “ANECA’s commitment to the arts in education here in Shreveport-Bossier City has made it possible for our theatre students to enhance their classroom experience next year with visits to live performances of plays and musicals in a variety of local and regional theaters,” he said. “ANECA’s sponsorship also makes it possible for the Cavalier Players to tour their summer show to Indiana for a week of performances at the Canterbury Summer Theatre.”

BPCC Theatre season memberships are on sale now through Oct. 26. Early-bird season memberships are available for $40 through Oct. 15. After Oct. 15, memberships are $50 through the run of “A Year with Frog and Toad.” Every membership includes two tickets to each of the four main stage shows.
