Christmas Fireworks Return

Rockets Over the Red to be bigger than ever

The Rockets Over the Red Fireworks Festival is set for 3-7:30 p.m. Nov. 26 at dual locations: Riverview Park in downtown Shreveport and Louisiana Boardwalk Outlets in Bossier City.

This festival, bigger than ever with live entertainment, will also include children’s activities beginning at 3 p.m. on both sides of the river. At 6:45 p.m., Shreveport Mayor Ollie Tyler and Bossier City Mayor Lo Walker will officially and simultaneously switch on giant, lighted Christmas trees at Riverview Park and at Louisiana Boardwalk Outlets in Bossier City just prior to a 20-minute fireworks show set to music.

“After what we recently faced along the Red River, I’m excited we can come together as one community to kickoff the holiday season, with the lighting of the Christmas Tree in Riverview Park and a spectacular fireworks show!” Mayor Ollie Tyler said. “This is a grand way to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year when the community and families come together to unite in appreciation of one another.”

The return of the Rockets Over the Red Fireworks Festival will be the public’s first opportunity to enjoy both the renovations at Riverview Park and the debut lighting of the City of Shreveport’s giant new Christmas tree.

Festival fans may recall in years past the fireworks show concluded with a cascade of fireworks off the Texas Street Bridge. That popular element will be returning in 2016.

Admission is free, but guests are encouraged to bring cash for food trucks, children’s play areas and vendors. The first 500 children to arrive on each side of the river will receive a free gift. In the event of a rainout, the event will be Nov. 27.

The Rockets Over the Red Fireworks Festival is brought to the community and visitors by the City of Shreveport, the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau, Cumulus Radio, Louisiana Boardwalk Outlets and the Greater Bossier Economic Development Foundation. Additional sponsors include LSU Shreveport and Whole Foods Market Shreveport-Bossier City.

The festival kicks off a series of December on the Red events to follow on the first three Saturday’s in December at Riverview Park. Each event will have a unique theme and entertainment offerings. Admission to all events is free and on-site security will be provided.
