Breadsticks with Cheese – crispy, buttery breadsticks, completely covered in cheese, served with marinara dipping sauce. I could very easily make a large order of these my meal.

On Oct. 20 at East Ridge Country Club, the Better Business Bureau hosted their 12th annual Torch Awards for Marketplace Trust. Emcee for the evening was Sonja Bailes, and Sheriff Steve Prator served as the guest speaker. Nearly three dozen local businesses were nominated in four different categories.

Texas Toothpicks: Now, I’m not big on onions or jalapeños, but when you fry them and have the delicious dipping sauce, they taste real good. This is a great menu item to share with the table. Au Gratin Potatoes: If you like cheese and you like potatoes (and who doesn’t?), you will love these.

I’ve been known to enjoy a bourbon cocktail every now and then. My first choice in bourbon is always Maker’s Mark. Most people ask if I like that brand the best because my name is in the title. I assure you, it’s not. The flavor of Marker’s Mark bourbon is like nothing else and, to me, is as recognizable as Coca-Cola or Pepsi.
