On June 29th the North Shreveport Seafood and Folklife Festival, which is a celebration of art and culture in northwest Louisiana highlighting the artistic contributions of the people of the African heritage in Louisiana, will celebrate with food, music, dance and more. $5. 11a.m. to 6p.m. Inter City Row Modern Dance Company, 2021 Dr. Martin Luther King Drive, Shreveport. 

THROUGH JULY 21: DISNEY’S NEWSIES TAKE THE STAGE AT MARJORIE LYONS PLAYHOUSE. Hosted by Stage Center in association with their School of Performing Arts, the updated classic is timely and fresh. The fictionalized adaptation of Newsies addresses age-old themes of social injustice, exploitative labor practices and David-versus-Goliath struggles as the young learn to harness their power against a corrupt establishment. July 18 & 19 at 7:30 p.m. Sat., July 20, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, July 21 at 2 p.m.Marjorie Lyons Playhouse, Centenary Campus, Shreveport. God & Country Celebration begins on June 30 at the Shreveport Convention Center, 400 Caddo Street, Shreveport. It is a joyous non-partisan, non-political celebration of Christian patriotism with an indoor picnic and concert. $500 per table for reserved seating and catered picnic box meal. Art Exhibit of Ruston artist, Nick Bustamante works are on display through July 20 at artspace, downtown Shreveport, 708 Texas Street.  This exhibit explores the relationship between interior and exterior spaces.

Looking for some fun just prior to the Independence Celebration, then check out Bret Michaels who will perform on July 3rd at DiamondJacks Casino and Resort, 711 DiamondJacks Blvd, Bossier City.  Performance begins at 8p.m, and tickets start at $40. Call 678-7777.

Mike McSwain's Urban Sketches are on display through July 19 at the Bossier Parish Community College, Building A at 6220 East Texas Street, Bossier City.

Roll into your Fourth of July holiday by beginning on July 3rd with a night filled with fun, art, history, tours, food and performances in downtown Shreveport at the July Artwalk and a sneak peek of this new apartment complex. 6-8 p.m. at The Standard, 509 Market Street, Shreveport. 

"Excellence in Art" on July 7 is an exhibit from Caddo Parish Educators. An opening reception is from 2 - 4 p.m., in the West Wing Gallery at the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum, 3015 Greenwood Road, Shreveport 

THROUGH AUG. 18: ANN GEORGE: SEASONS OF SELF. This Louisiana artist uses her camera, paper, ink and paint to create photographic fusions that tell stories through her use of imagery. R.W. Norton Art Gallery, 4747 Creswell Ave., Shreveport. Visit www.rwnaf.org.

Plan lunch Tuesday, July 9th at Parish Taceaux to explore arts with Pop-Up Art. Bringing young budding artist for hands-on fun, while enjoying tacos. $5, suggested donation; $3 tacos. 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Artspace. Incase you miss this one, look for more opportunities on July 23rd and August 6th.
