Who says you can’t go home again?

Ashley’s Building and Construction invests in relationships with their customers, forming friendships that last beyond the job.

Husband-and-wife duo and owners Adam and Lisa Willard recently completed a master bath transformation. But it wasn’t just any master bath. This master bath is located in the home built by the new homeowner’s parents back in 1972.

Ashley’s was hired to remodel the house’s significant areas. It was a typical ’70s home with wood paneling, large upper cabinets and colors that were popular when it was built. “It was cool that they trusted us with the house. This was the house where everyone always gathered for the holidays and events,” Lisa said.

Located in Louisiana Downs’ vicinity in Hickory Ridge Estates, the home was one of the first built in this wooded area. Each home is on five acres, and the homeowner’s family also had a barn and horse. The homeowner and her siblings were teenagers at that time, and she laughingly recalls how living out there “really cramped” their style. She says there was no phone, no cable, and one way in and out of the neighborhood. Going on dates was an adventure after the bridge in the area washed out. “We had to go on dates in a johnboat that my dad would take us across the river in,” she said.

Fast forward almost 50 years. After losing both of their parents, the homeowner and her siblings were faced with the prospect of selling their family home. “It was killing all of us because we’re a very close family. This is where we gathered,” she said. She says it was an answer to prayers when her husband agreed they should buy the house.

The home needed updates, so the Ashleys remodeled the kitchen and a half-bath before the homeowners moved in. The master bedroom and master bath were next. All of the walls in the bath’s existing floorplan were removed. The previous makeup area was absorbed into the new, spacious room. It had been separated from the bathroom, and a small closet was located behind it. That closet area is now the location of a sink and new make-up vanity.

The remodeled space has beech cabinetry by Ace Custom Cabinets. The homeowner wanted the cabinetry to look rustic, raw and weathered. A sample of the floor tile was taken to Caddo Paint in Shreveport, where Lisa says a custom stain was created by color matching the lightest part of the tile.

United Tile provided the gleaming quartz countertops and tile. Can lighting installed by G&S Electric brightens the room. A&M Plumbing did the plumbing work, and Danny Corley Painting freshened the walls.

Glass Services installed the glass shower enclosure and large mirror. Adam had used reclaimed cedar from another remodel to frame the mirror near the shower. He also custom cut the wood beams that frame the shower. The shower surround is a porcelain tile with a river rock floor.

Adam and Lisa enjoy working with customers who want to revamp their forever home, and they enjoy going above and beyond for their customers. “We love to really make it special for them and capture good memories,” said Lisa. During work on this home, wood paneling was removed from the kitchen revealing the family’s growth chart on the wall. “It had my younger brother, myself, and my mom and dad marked on it,” said the homeowner. “My brother and dad had a race to see who was the tallest as he was getting older.” Adam cut the growth chart out of the wall, had it framed, and gifted it to the homeowner.

Old traditions will continue, and new ones will begin in this family home. “I feel like I’m home because it is my home. It’s where I’m supposed to be,” said the homeowner.
