With a number of well-known and favored merchants expected to be in attendance and special events planned throughout, the mission behind the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier City’s Shopping for a Cause remains clear.

“The Junior League of Shreveport- Bossier is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers,” Stacey Smith, market co-chair, said. “Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. Shopping for a Cause directly benefits the Junior League of Shreveport- Bossier and enables it to put its mission into action.”

The event is 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. March 13-14 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 15 at the Shreveport Convention Center.

The proceeds of Shopping for a Cause will benefit a number of community programs including the Super Safety Saturday at Sheriff’s Safety Town, the Domestic Violence Education and Prevention program in partnership with Providence House, the Health Literacy Initiative, Kids in the Kitchen and many more.

“League volunteers provide approximately 4,000 volunteer hours annually devoted to our community projects,” Smith said. “Shopping for a Cause contributes to a substantial portion of the operating budget that supports the Junior League mission.”

“This year our goal is to provide a premier shopping experience to the Shreveport-Bossier community,” Smith said. “We are working to curate an exciting mix of merchants and to host several can’t-miss special events including Girl’s Night Out, Patron Party and Breakfast with the Bunnies.”

Girl’s Night Out will be 6 to 9 p.m. March 13 and tickets are $35. Cantina Laredo will cater, and beverages will be served by Thrifty Liquor, while entertainment will be provided by DJ Tony Groove. The event will include a raffle of four pieces of jewelry from Sid Potts with a total value of $7,500.

The Patron Party will be from 7 to 10 p.m. March 14 with tickets going for $200 per couple. Catering will be provided by Savoie’s, and Earshot Graffiti will be the night’s entertainment. Wright’s Sound Gallery will be featured in the “Man Cave” offered to the gentlemen in attendance, while a silent auction with numerous unique items will also take place. Those items include a Bloomingdales shopping spree with a professional stylist, hotel stay and airfare for two, and an Ultimate Pro Sports Fan Getaway with tickets to a MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL or PGA event, hotel stay and airfare for two. But a real treat for the evening are the glasses of champagne that containing a stone will be sold. One lucky winner’s flute will have a McCary’s Jewelers diamond valued at $8,500.

On the last day of Shopping for a Cause, the Breakfast with the Bunnies event will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m March 15.

Tickets will be $15 per adult, and children can have their picture made with live Easter bunnies. There will also be appearances from princesses and superheroes. The morning will also include a raffle with plenty of prizes.

This will be the first year for some of the merchants who are set to be in attendance offering unique and one-o-a-kind items.

“240Sweet out of Columbus, Ind., offers handmade delicious marshmallows with tons of flavors for the whole family to enjoy,” Smith said. “All of their products are made using local, all-natural ingredients with no preservatives. All patrons will be leaving the Patron Party with a complimentary bag of their goodies. This is their first year.”

Other notable merchants include the Red Arrow Workshop out of Lafayette; Roma Boots, who have been featured on the “Today Show”; PK Fine Imports all the way from California; and Under Wraps from Dallas, who is a fan favorite at the Shopping for a Cause event every year.

“Louisiana Coin and Jewelry, in their first year at the market, will be carrying the very popular Kendra Scott jewelry and Rustic Cuff bangles,” Smith said. “You will also be able to purchase the amazing Akola Project beads – handmade jewelry made by and benefitting women in need in Uganda.”

Smith said this year their Spring Market will add a new and exciting opportunity to their shoppers.

“This year, we are offering shoppers the opportunity to participate in Merchant Madness,” she said. “Shoppers will be given a punch card, and if they make purchases from five vendors during Shopping for a Cause, they will be entered to win fabulous prizes from Couleur Boutique and Lewis’ Gifts.”

Tickets for any of the special events and for general admission can be purchased online at www.jlsb.org, at the Junior League office located at 2601 Line Ave. between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday or at the door of the event.
