Astroll through the 1400 block of Yale Avenue in the Allendale neighborhood reveals the Jewish and Italian roots of one of Shreveport’s first suburbs. The area is full of history, like the Jewish cemetery and the row houses of days gone by. Today, the neighborhood is full of so much more.

Doctors Andrew Larson, a local anesthesiologist, and his wife, Lindsey Pennington, a plastic surgeon, bought the former Arlington Hotel at auction. The centerpiece of their plans is the Every Man a King distillery. The Shreveport Metropolitan Planning Commission unanimously approved a Special Use permit for the property at its meeting April 3.

A new plan to develop the Cross Bayou area north of downtown Shreveport has emerged. The plan is the vision of Larry English and the Gateway Development Consortium. Long-range plans for the 63-acre development project include new facilities for parish and municipal government entities, housing and a multi-use sports complex.
