Months ago when Donald Trump came down those golden escalators at his famous Trump Tower In New York City to announce he was running for president, I snickered. There’s no way the billionaire and reality television star can win the Republican nomination, I thought, with so many creditable and political savvy candidates vying for the political plum.

First, there is Bernie Sanders, who is running for president as a Democrat, even though on his U.S. Senate Web site he brags about being the longest-serving Independent in Congress after serving 16 years in the House and is in his second term in the Senate.

Believe it or not, voters in Caddo and Bossier parishes face another election day April 9. It is one of those elections which often draws the ire of government watchers who believe tax propositions should be placed on the ballot when a larger turnout of voters is expected.

Caddo District Attorney is an important and powerful position in the parish. It is officially a special election created by the unexpected death of District Attorney Charles Rex Scott in April. Scott was elected to a second six-year term last fall, so the winner of the election will fill out the remainder of Scott’s term, which runs through 2020.
