A Daughter ’s Plea

“My mom needs insulin to live,” Zoë Massery of Ward, Ark., pleaded in her fundraiser. “I don’t know what I would do without my mom. I am 16 years old and still need my mother. I see the stress that my mom and other people have of wondering if they are going to be able to get the stuff they need to live, along with tons and tons of other bills.

There are still 7.2 million people who have diabetes that have yet to be diagnosed, with an additional 84.1 million adults over the age of 18 that have the early stages of diabetes (pre-diabetes).

According to the Centers for Disease Control, 30.3 million people living in the United States have diabetes – only 23.1 million of those are diagnosed. Another 84.1 million adults have prediabetes. If we combine both numbers, 114.4 million people are either affected by diabetes or prediabetes, which is about 43.
