Junior League offers tour of community’s finest designs
The Junior League of Shreveport- Bossier is once again hosting their anticipated Kitchen Tour event on Oct. 31 at Kitchen & Bath Cottage on 6505 Line Ave. in Shreveport. This will be the second year JLSB has organized the interactive and all-day fundraiser, after the response from last year’s event.
Aimed to help support the mission of JLSB, the Kitchen Tour enables the league to continue with promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
The event will kick off at 9 a.m. for a catered brunch provided by Blake Jackson of Drake Catering. As part of the brunch portion of the day, there will be a cooking demonstration, as well as a spread of a variety of brunch foods from local restaurants. Tickets are being sold for brunch only at $15, or just $10 with the purchase of a Tour ticket. Brunch will take place from 9 to 10 a.m., followed by the self-guided Kitchen Tour.
“The self-guided Kitchen Tour includes 10 new and newly remodeled kitchens in the Shreveport area,” Liz Lafitte, JLSB Kitchen Tour chairman, said. “These amazing kitchens represent a variety of styles including traditional, contemporary and outdoor so that those looking for ideas for their own remodeling projects as well as those who simply appreciate beautiful design and craftsmanship will find plenty to take their breath away. The Kitchen Tour will be an ideal way to see the latest in kitchen design, trends in appliances and interior design. A league member who is knowledgeable about the kitchen will be present at each home throughout the tour to answer questions.”
The Kitchen & Bath Cottage will be open throughout the day of the tour for ticket holders to come in and visit at their leisure. In addition to the viewing of the kitchen designs, patrons are also offered a look at recipes prepared from the Junior League of Shreveport-Bossier cookbooks Mardi Gras to Mistletoe, Revel and A Cook’s Tour of Shreveport. This event is open to anyone with a Kitchen Tour ticket.
Purchasing the Kitchen Tour ticket also gets each guest invited to the Happy Hour from 4 to 5 p.m. The event’s finale is sponsored by Imelda’s and will include the announcement of winners from the event’s raffle. The raffle will feature numerous items including a grand prize. Tickets for the raffle items are $10 and $25 for the grand prize raffle.
Lafitte said the JLSB hopes to make the Kitchen Tour an annual event, particularly because it was so successful last year. The idea behind this fundraiser was to create a creative and interactive way to raise money and offer a unique experience to guests.
“The Junior League of Shreveport- Bossier was inspired by the successful Kitchen Tours that are hosted by Junior Leagues in other cities throughout the country, and we were looking for an enjoyable and inspiring way to raise money to support our community projects,” Lafitte said.
Lafitte said the Kitchen Tour is inclusive to all who are interested. From those focused on remodeling or building plans of their own, to patrons who simply enjoy and admire the work of professional contractors, the day will have something to offer for everyone.
“The event is open to all participants who have a ticket,” she said.
“We encourage community members who are interested in building, remodeling or design to participate in the self-guided tour for inspiration for their own projects. We also appreciate the support and attendance of others who just want a fun way to spend a fall day with friends and family and appreciate the unique work of local contractors and designers.”
