BEASON AWARDED TOP HONOR

During its annual conference Oct. 12 in Nashville, Tenn., the Medical Group Management Association recognized Alan Beason, MS, FACMPE, CEO/administrator for Cardiovascular Consultants, LLP, of Shreveport, with the Harry J. Harwick Lifetime Achievement Award. This award, sponsored by The Hartford, is the highest recognition bestowed by MGMA. It is awarded to an individual who has made nationally recognized contributions to healthcare administration, delivery and/or education in his or her career, advancing the field of medical practice management. An MGMA member since 1996, Beason has worked in medical practice management for over three decades. Beason began work for Cardiovascular Consultants in 1996 and is responsible for the growth of the practice, increasing the number of staff from five physicians in one hospital to eleven cardiologists, and four mid-level providers with 65 supporting staff serving the hospitals of the Willis-Knighton Health System and Minden Medical Center.

NEW CHRISTUS DOCTOR CHRISTUS

Health Shreveport-Bossier announced Dr. Jode Jann Burgin has joined the CHRISTUS Physician Group. Burgin joins Drs. Susan Kemp, April Palmer and Paula Rembert of CHRISTUS Primary Care Associates, located at 1453 E. Bert Kouns Industrial Loop, Ste. 221 on the Highland campus. Burgin is board certified in family medicine and specializes in acute and chronic illnesses, preventative medicine, women’s health and pediatric care ages 12 and older. CENTER TO SHINE A LIGHT ON LUNG CANCER NOV. 13

Community members impacted by the lung cancer, the No. 1 cancer killer in the United States, are invited to attend “Shine a Light on Lung Cancer” at noon Nov. 13. The event is free, and lunch will be provided.

Dr. Hazem El-Osta, assistant professor at Feist-Weiller Cancer Center, will give a lung cancer treatment update in his presentation, “What is Lung- MAP? Is it for me?” Cheryl Duncan, PA, will also speak about “After Treatment … What?” Lung-MAP is a new clinical trial offered at LSU Health Shreveport. For eligible patients with squamous cell lung cancer, Lung-MAP offers a new way to test investigational drugs. GHALI INDUCTED INTO ROYAL COLLEGE OF SURGEONS

Dr. GE Ghali, chair of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, has been selected for Fellowship ad hominem into the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, one of the oldest surgical organizations in the world. It’s an honor given for excellence in surgery or dental practice and based on prominence in the field. He was inducted during a diploma ceremony in Scotland earlier this month.

The Royal College of Surgeons was established in 1505 and is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence and advancement in surgical and dental practice, through its activities in education, training and examinations. It has a worldwide membership.
