AUG. 31-SEPT. 30: “QUAKE IN PARADISE: ECHOES OF NEPAL.” Art exhibit featuring the works of Northwest Louisiana artist Douglas Walter. Walter and a group of artists were on an outing in Nepal when the 2015 earthquake devastated Nepal. His work is a reflection of the experiences of the people of Nepal during this incredible natural disaster. These are artful images, created by putting Benjamin Moore latex interior paint, vinyl, duct tape and tissue paper on canvas. Opening in Mainspace@artspace, the exhibit will run through Sept. 30. An opening reception will be held on Aug. 31 from 5 p.m. Free and open to the public. On Friday, Sept. 1, there will also be an opportunity to meet artist Douglas Walton during a Nepalese-inspired luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The luncheon will take place in the exhibition space at artspace and will be prepared by Southern Fork Catering. AUG. 31-SEPT. 30: “VICARIOUS TRAUMA.” Exhibit by Ruston artist Raluca Iancu will explore disaster, tragedy, memory and vulnerability in his show upstairs in CoolSpace@artspace. A featured piece, “It’s Not Easy to Stop a Train,” is an immersive experience that presents viewers to “step into” one compartment of a crashed longdistance passenger train and experience catharsis.
