Dear Editor

318 Forum readers share insight, thanks

I am new to Shreveport, a military spouse transplant. My kids attend local schools, my money goes to local businesses, and we love our new home. I was born in Louisiana, and I’m relishing the opportunity to reconnect with my roots and show my kids the best of the South.

I rely on 318 Forum for what’s new and next. I clip the ads, text the fun events to my friends, share the festival schedules on my Facebook and otherwise plan our dollars and calendars with the excellent content.

What I don’t appreciate is your continued use of Mr. Avallone’s political writings as a columnist.

Mr. Avallone is an easy hire. He’s a known entity in Shreveport. He’s a party boss. He’s written books. Here’s the problem: He writes balatantly partisan, hypocritical pieces with cherrypicked facts which lead readers to false conclusions and then his editors print them wholesale.

318 Forum is all about what’s next in Shreveport. The publication allows us to write and cherish and plan for our own cultural narrative. I would challenge the editorial staff to identify and empower political columnists who exemplify that, instead of blatantly partisan mudslinging opinion columns which will only serve to alienate the very readership you target. Mr. Avallone represents the past. I’m interested in what’s next.

It really helps that there are such staunch and steadfast entrepreneurial enablers as Jay (Covington) and the team at 318 Forum in our community that help make sure that successes get noticed. You guys really are a pivotal element to countless small business successes in the SBC.

Those of us at the Symphony and Symphony Guild thank you for all we are able to do together. The Gala, Symphony Season Opener and Symphony Guild Meet the Maestro were all wonderful successes due in large part to support from you. We so appreciate your attendance and sharing.
