High-tech treatment for loose skin, fat and wrinkles

What is Exilis Ultra 360?

This device made by BTL is the third-generation technology which combines both radio frequency and ultrasound waves to produce desired skin tightening, fat reduction and collagen production. Exilis Ultra 360 is the first and only device to combine these two technologies for this state-of-the-art aesthetic procedure and is FDA-approved. Be mindful when seeking treatment with Exilis to ensure you are being treated with this newest version of the device to get the best results.

How does it work?

With the combined technology, the heat is pushed deep into the skin, causing the fat cells to overheat and eventually die. The cells are then naturally absorbed into your body’s lymphatic system and carried away. For the top layers of the skin, the heat treatment prompts the development of new collagen, giving us that “youthful glow.” Because of the process of fat destruction and absorption, proper hydration before and after the treatments is critical to achieving ultimate results.

What is a treatment experience like?

Patients have described the procedure as similar to a hot stone massage. The treatment is entirely customizable to each patient based upon his/her goals and tolerance to the heat technology.

Our treatments take place in our clean, soothing spa-like treatment room and last 15, 30 or 60 minutes, depending on the treatment chosen. There is no pain, no downtime, no anesthesia, and a patient can go back to work, errands, etc. right after the procedure.

Treatments range in price from $300-$500 each, and package pricing incentives are available. In most cases, a minimum of four treatments is recommended every 12-18 months. As with any of these treatments, maintaining weight, exercise, a healthy lifestyle and proper hydration is critical to success.

Why did you choose this product for your medical practice?

After many years of being approached by aesthetic companies and being underwhelmed by the technology and results, I was introduced to the BTL line, examined the science and testing behind the technology and spoke to several colleagues around the country who were getting great results for their patients. I then decided that this was the right addition to my practice.

We started with the Vanquish ME with Cellutone devices for large-area fat reduction like stomach, waist and thighs, and then we added the Exilis Ultra 360 to be able to include skin tightening and collagen production for areas like the face, neck and arms.

What results are you seeing so far?

We are very pleased with our results. I have tried treatments on my stomach and neck myself and love the results. For me personally, I am 58 years old, work out and have a healthy Body Mass Index (BMI). After doing four Exilis treatments on my stomach, I had destruction of just enough of my top layer fat to reveal the muscle tone and definition that I work hard to maintain. My neck treatments are still in process, but I am seeing a reduction in the volume in my upper neck (jowls) and a tightening of my skin in that area.

How would you compare this to other treatments, and how should a patient choose a procedure?

Deciding on a treatment can be overwhelming. As always, the importance of picking a well-trained and M.D.-monitored technician is critical. Treatment could be ineffective or cause injury if not performed correctly.

Plastic surgery performed by a boardcertified plastic surgeon will always create the most extreme and best long-term results. The downside is the cost can be very high, and it is major surgery often requiring several weeks of downtime off work.

There are several other non-invasive treatments which use a variety of treatment methods including freezing, laser, single-technology ultrasound and mechanical massage, but the combined technology in Exilis Ultra 360, in my opinion, is the premium option.

Ultimately, patients need to decide what they want to achieve, how much funding they have (as all of these procedures are self-pay) and how much time they can take off. Then choose a qualified physician and trained technician to discuss your options.

Who is a good candidate for this treatment?

Patients 21 and older, who have a healthy BMI, no metal implants or skin conditions preventing the treatment who are interested in treating targeted problem areas of fat and small areas of loose skin or wrinkles are good candidates. Women who are pregnant or nursing should not attempt this procedure. Make sure your practitioner provides you with a complete list of precautions and risks before having this or any procedure done.
