Every day is taco day at Don Juanz

What we tried:

Margaritas! Don Juanz has an extensive selection of frozen and onthe-rocks margaritas including lime, prickly pear, mango, strawberry, Baja sunset, and my favorite, blood orange. The tequilas they use to craft drinks aren’t mainstream, and you likely won’t find it anywhere else in town.

Queso Vida Loca: A bowl of their spectacular queso blanco made even better by adding ground beef and pico de gallo. One of my favorite quesos in town!

Baja Salad: Savory grilled steak tossed with organic field greens, cheese, yellow bell pepper, shredded carrots, tomatoes and peppers, which are then topped with tortilla strips. There are four different in-house-made dressing options, but I went with their tasty house dressing. If you’re looking for something lighter, this salad is perfect.

Baja Beach Fish Taco: Grilled yellowfin sushi-grade tuna, cabbage, cilantro, jack cheese and lime-cilantro crema on a gluten-free tortilla. While I’m not a fish person at all, I had a bite of my date’s taco, and it was great. So maybe I am an “on occasion” fish person?

Baja Lime Pie: Fresh key lime juice, sweetened with condensed milk and topped with fresh whipped cream and lime. Lots of places have key lime pie. Nowhere has fresh key lime pie like this.

Exciting news:

Don Juanz was recently awarded the “Eat Fit” designation from Ochsner Health System. That means menu items meet nutritional criteria designated by Ochsner, with support by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation and LSU Health Shreveport. Both the Shreveport Don Juanz location and the location in Bossier City are the only restaurants in town with this designation!

Next Visit:

Burrito in a Wet-Suit: Grilled steak with rice, black or refried beans, cheese and cilantro smothered in chipotle queso blanco served with rice and beans.

West Coast Quesadilla: Steak melted with jack and cheddar cheeses, grilled bell peppers and onions, served with a side of guacamole, pico de gallo and sour cream.

Vibe:

Exciting beachy atmosphere. The only way this place could be better is if it were on the water.
