LSUS Foundation to honor the founders of the Spring Street Museum

In October, the National Society of Colonial Dames of America’s Shreveport-Red River Parish chapter, the Helen Mann Fund Committee, and the Friends of the Spring Street Museum donated the museum to the LSUS Foundation. The foundation now operates the museum on behalf of LSUS-Shreveport.

On Jan. 23, the foundation will honor those organizations in speakeasy style, a nod to the museum building’s previous incarnation as a popular downtown bar called Fort Knox. The black-tie and feather boa-optional gala will feature an open bar, hors d’oeuvres and a seated dinner. A jazz band and flappers will perform during the celebration.

Guests will be able to bid on unique cultural experiences during a silent auction. The packages include a lavish private dinner for 20 with Dr. Alex Mikaberidze, curator of the Noel Collection, at an outstanding

Shreveport home. Another offering will provide a private dinner with Maestro Kermit Poling, general manager of Red River Radio and associate conductor for the Shreveport Symphony. Many more unique experiences will be up for grabs at the auction.

Tickets are $125 per person. Sponsorships are available, and sponsors will receive recognition at the event. Top sponsors will be the guests of honor at an exclusive speakeasy party on Jan. 9 at the museum.

Money raised at supports scholarships and academic initiatives.

The Spring Street Museum will provide new academic initiatives for LSU-Shreveport students. The museum showcases Shreveport’s early history as a riverfront boom town.

The collection includes artifacts donated by some of the city’s first families, as well as objects discovered during archeological digs in downtown Shreveport.

“RiverBend Revue will honor the past and celebrate the future,” said Laura Perdue, LSUS Foundation executive director. “We’re very thankful to the three groups that made this gift possible, and we’re excited about the academic opportunities it will bring to the students and faculty.”
