Best in Sheaux to strut at Riverview Hall for funds and fun

The Best in Sheaux Gala Fundraiser and Runway Dog Show 2020 will be held at 6:30 p.m. on March 14 at the Riverview Hall in Shreveport. Presented by Robinson’s Rescue, this fun and furry event offers a classic runway dog show, a silent auction, a raffle, delicious food and great times for a great cause.

Evans Knight, development coordinator for Robinson’s Rescue, is especially looking forward to the event. “Best in Sheaux is a chance for everyone to get together and support an incredible cause that has grown close to my heart,” Knight said. “A lot of people don’t know how important our work is, but the spay/neuter mission of Robinson’s Rescue is keeping the cats and dogs of Shreveport safe on a daily basis.”

There are thousands of unwanted animals born every year. Robinson’s Rescue provides affordable spay/neuter services to those who need them, as well as serve to educate the public about the importance of spaying/neutering.

“Since Robinson’s Rescue is a nonprofit, fundraising is a huge part of our job in the development department, and Best in Sheaux is really the lynchpin of our fundraising year,” Knight said.

All the money raised at the Best in Sheaux gala event goes directly back into the programs at Robinson’s Rescue, allowing them to continue to serve the community, purchase surgical supplies, provide educational outreach materials, purchase animal food and more. “Fundraising also guarantees that we don’t have to raise our prices, which is the central tenet of our low-cost program,” Knight said.

This year’s big night will be emceed by none other than Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator. Highlights of the evening include the chance to win an authentic New Orleans Saints jersey signed by Alvin Kamara, two sets of pre-season Saints tickets, delicious cuisine from restaurants such as Chianti, El Compadre, Herby- K’s, Ki Mexico, PizzaRev, Twisted Root Burger Company and much more. There will also be raffle ticket opportunities and the chance to vote for your favorite dog on the runway.

“Our silent auction and raffle items are great, but the most amazing thing, and the central focus of the event, is the runway dog show,” Dr. Andrea Master Everson, CEO/medical director of Robison’s Rescue said. “That’s my favorite part. Seeing every dog with its own personality, or themed costume with their owner as they walk down the stage, and the crowd cheers them on, is what brings us all together. It’s a competition, and there is a winner, but really everyone who gets up on stage to help support Robinson’s Rescue is a winner to us, and we couldn’t be more grateful.”

The main goal of the night is not only to give the dogs their moment in the spotlight but to raise significant funds for the beloved non-profit, who can’t do it alone. “After 66,000 surgeries, we are still offering our same low prices so that anyone can afford to give their pets this lifesaving surgery,” Everson said.

“Best in Sheaux is not only a fun and exciting event but also it makes a huge impact for our community,” Ragan Terzia, director of development for Robinson’s Rescue, said. “The animal shelters cannot do it alone – the key to ending homelessness for dogs and cats is to be proactive and prevent excess litters through spay/neuter surgeries. At the current rate of reproduction for these animals, seven dogs and cats are being born for every single human baby. As you can see, this ratio is not sustainable through adoption only. Spay/neuter surgery is not glamorous, but Best in Sheaux gives us a night to make it shine!” “What we do really does help these animals live longer, happier lives, and removes them from the unchecked cycle of reproduction that we are dedicated to reducing,” Knight said.
