The bivalent vaccines are a combination of the original vaccine strain and the Omicron BA.4/5 variant, the dominant circulating form of SARS- CoV-2. Two mRNA vaccines are available now as bivalent booster doses: the Pfizer bivalent vaccine is for individuals age 12 years and older; the Moderna bivalent vaccine is recommended for 18 years and older.
