Epilepsy, being the fourth most common neurological disease diagnosed, will affect an additional 150,000 Americans this year. Interestingly, the incidence significantly grows after the age of 55 due to the fact patients are at an increased risk of developing vascular insults, tumors and neurodegenerative disorders.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, 30.3 million people living in the United States have diabetes – only 23.1 million of those are diagnosed. Another 84.1 million adults have prediabetes. If we combine both numbers, 114.4 million people are either affected by diabetes or prediabetes, which is about 43.

“Oftentimes, worse than the physical abuse is the verbal and emotional abuse, which can make you feel like you are not worthy and do not deserve to be treated with respect,” Shobana Powell, licensed master social worker and bilingual counselor at The Center for Families, said.
