The Enchanted Garden wins store makeover

They call it porcelain fever,” Deb Cockrell, owner of The Enchanted Garden, said while looking over one of her newly-designed displays at her store.

The Enchanted Garden, located at 2429 Line Ave., won a $10,000 store makeover from Poo~Pourri Before-You-Go-Toilet Spray earlier this month. The local store was selected at random from nearly 2,200 entries.

“My first thought was, ‘Really?’” Deb said. James and Deb Cockrell, both owners of The Enchanted Garden, entered the drawing while visiting the Poo~Pourri booth at Atlanta International Gift and Home Furnishings at AmericasMart Atlanta in July 2014.

“I don’t normally enter things like [the drawing] but I did because I’ve known [the Poo~Pourri product] for seven years,” Deb said. “It was pretty thrilling when you think about the odds of winning. I always feel pretty blessed with my life and the things that happen. It was a real nice surprise.”

The grand prize was $10,000 worth of goods and services provided by Poo~Pourri for store makeover, including consulting and custom displays by designer Harold Hand, of Grapevine, Texas.

“Deb and James are long-time customers of Poo~Pourri, so we’re thrilled to help them prepare their store for the holidays and make the gift-buying season a little more magical,” Suzy Bátiz, creator and CEO of Poo~Pourri, said.

Deb said Hand and his team worked in close with her and James to design handcrafted ornamental garland and other customized pieces and displays that bring to life the holiday spirit of their store.

She told Hand that she would love her displays to look like a store in Grapevine, Texas that Hand worked on since both stores carry Dept. 56 Villages and Mark Roberts fairies/Santas. She said they worked together to customize the original look to her store.

“It’s like I told him, ‘The Enchanted Garden is magical, enchanted, cozy, you know, it’s comfortable,’ and I told him, ‘I don’t want anything highfalutin,’” Deb said.

Plenty of handmade garland is displayed around the store both inside and out.

“I custom make the garland down to the needle – the color of the needle the type, the length, the combination of needles, how long the garland is, how fat it is,” Hand said.

Hand said he was happy with the outcome of the store and was elated to work with the Dept. 56 Village display. Hand is a styrofoam artist that creates plenty of displays with his talent.

The makeover was essentially a four-week project that Hand, his team and Deb finished in about two days. Deb said she and her staff are still working on finishing touches on the displays.

Deb said two of the village displays will stay up year-round.

Looking back at the villages, Deb said
she is eager for customers to see the makeover.

“I’ve had people that have collected [the villages] for over 30 years,” Deb said. “It becomes like a Christmas tradition.”
