Red River Street Rod Association to hold 46th annual car show

The Red River Street Rod Association, founded in 1973, will hold its Street Rod Reunion Car Show in Bossier City at Boomtown Casino & Hotel on June 7-8. It is open to the public with free admission and parking. Over 200 outstanding vehicles are expected.

This car club, with over 120-plus family memberships from the Northwest Louisiana area, and their events are well attended by classic car and street rod enthusiasts from all over the region. Club members are very active in obtaining sponsorship donations from local businesses who support the club and its target beneficiary, the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission. The club has been able to raise over $100,000 for the Rescue Mission over the last six years.

The activities start Friday evening with a “meet and greet” pizza party for participants who come in early. Saturday morning opens to the participants and the public with registration beginning at 7:30 a.m. All participants receive “goody bags” and registration materials with the added treat of a free event T-shirt and complimentary buffet ticket for the Boomtown Cattleman’s Buffet for the first 100 to pre-register, all for just a $25 entry fee. During the day there are plenty of soft drinks, event T-shirts, food vendors for lunchtime, games of chance and a live auction. Top ’50s and ’60s rock-n-roll music will be provided by professional DJ “Generation Gap.”

Over $5,000 in cash and awards are presented at the show, including the most coveted “Best of Show” plaque and $500, based on the votes by the professional judges. There is also the prestigious “People’s Choice” award voted on by spectators and participants. The show is for vehicles 1987 and older with divisions set at 1948 and older, and 1949 and newer. Also, there are classes with prizes and money for Tri-Five Chevys, “T” Buckets, Trucks, Best Under Construction and the Longest Distance Traveled Award.

The National Street Rod Association will also provide certified safety inspectors for on-site inspection of participants as well as inspections of club members’ vehicles.
