The 32nd Shreveport-Bossier-DeSoto African- American Scholarship Awards Banquet was held on Feb. 8, at the Morning Star Family Life Center. Jeff Hall, first African-American mayor of Alexandria, La., was the keynote speaker. Ten people from Northwest Louisiana were given the African-American Achievement Award. Some 400 people attended this annual event. All proceeds from the awards banquet go toward scholarships to area students.
