Boudreaux family continues to dispense health care

In 1923, Amilcar J. Boudreaux opened his new drug store in Opelousas, La. The Boudreaux family has kept that heritage alive for three generations, celebrating 100 years of dispensing pharmaceuticals to families throughout Louisiana. After being elected president of the Louisiana Pharmacists Association, Amilcar opened Boudreaux’s New Drug Store in New Iberia and Lake Charles as the family business expanded in 1940.

In 1960, Robert O. Boudreaux purchased the Lake Charles store as he began his career in the family business. In 1972, he joined the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy and, in 1985, was elected the first president of the International Association of Compounding Pharmacists.

In 1999, Douglas and his wife, Jennifer, purchased the New Drug Store and White’s Pharmacy.

In 2006, they received the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists CEO Award for Courageous Service for their work during the storm and in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Also, in 2006 and again in 2010, they were named Louisiana’s Compounding Pharmacists of the Year.

Robert is the founding member and past president of the Northwest Louisiana Interfaith Pharmacy in Shreveport, which has given out more than $1.5 million in medications to needed
patients a year. The Boudreaux team brings almost 70 years of pharmaceutical experience to its customers.

In his application to open Hope Pharmacy in the local market, Doug Boudreaux wrote: “Our current pharmacies have been affiliated with hospice care for over 20 years. We currently have active contracts with 10 separate hospices in Northwest Louisiana and take care of approximately 200 hospice patients. I actively provide information concerning disease state management including pain, nausea control, seizure disorders, etc. I have provided in-services for pain management and end-of-life care for over 20 years and have presented at state and national seminars and conventions. The intention of Hope Pharmacy, LLC is to utilize our relationships with physicians, nurses and other health-care providers in the area as the established leader in hospice and cancer care.”

The group has been accredited by the Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board since 2015.

Doug’s wife, Jennifer Boudreaux, has been a pharmacist for almost 30 years and is the pharmacist in charge of Hope Pharmacy. She has been responsible for writing and implementing all policies and procedures and training the staff.

Boudreaux holds two patents, one associated with cancer treatment and prevention.

The Boudreauxes have three children: Camille, Anthony and Grace. They are members of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shreveport. Among Douglas Boudreaux’s other civic activities are the Boy Scouts of America, where he is a lifetime member Eagle Scout.
