THE FUTURE OF PIERREMONT MALL
Vintage Realty Company takes on historical shopping center

Situated along Shreveport’s Line Avenue corridor, Pierremont Mall has been a staple of Northwest Louisiana’s historical shopping scene since 1964.
The mall has been a revolving door for some of the area’s most fashionable, and now in its 50th year, Vintage Realty Company announced in July they will now oversee the property.
“The opportunity to work with ownership and tenants of a landmark retail property is exciting,” said Sarona Snyder, director of commercial property management for Vintage. “Since its opening in 1964, Pierremont Mall has offered a great venue in a very visible retail area on Line Avenue. We are hopeful to bring a new and fresh approach to leasing and management of the property.”
Nestled between Line Avenue and the R.W. Norton Art Gallery, Pierremont Mall is located in the South Highlands neighborhood of Shreveport. Coffee shops, eateries and fine dining are all a short walk away, and for Vintage, that’s important when identifying what types of property they’re willing to take over.
“Our hope and goal is to use our experience in property management and leasing to help Pierremont Mall continue in the direction toward realizing its full potential as an exciting hub for shoppers, current tenants and possible new tenants,” Snyder said. The mall was renovated in 1992 and 2011.
Many will remember familiar names such as Selber Brothers, Merle Norman and Clarke’s Jewelers, all of which were housed in the nearly 70,000-square-foot shopping center. Today, Toy Fair is the only remaining store that has been with Pierremont since its opening.
Julie Baskind Bryan, owner of Toy Fair, has managed the toy store for the last five years. She took over the business from her parents, who started the toy company in 1963. She said she’s worked with Vintage personally so she knows the sort of caliber of management they handle.
“They’ve been nice enough to stop by and chat with us one-on-one,” she said. “Everything needs a change. This place has been empty for a while now.”
Bryan said she’s pleased with the tenants that Pierremont has now, but she knows that there are plenty of empty spaces that could be filled.
“I want to see more retail and other stores here,” she said. “I want this mall to fill back up to how it originally was.”
She added that the additions made in 2011 have been wonderful, and she hopes to see Vintage continue with renovations and changes as needed.
Gail Ross, 52, of Shreveport, said she remembers Toy Fair as a child, and the mall’s convenient benches inside that have not been touched.
“[Toy Fair] has had the same stairs for kids to walk up when they try shoes on in the shoe department. The store has had the same layout forever and always carried difficult sizes in kid’s shoes,” she said. “My shoes came from there as a kid. My own kid’s shoes came from there, and now my grandkids’ shoes.”
Other than shopping, Pierremont also hosts Wine Country Bistro & Bottle Shop, a local bistro that provides wine and dining. Jason Brady, owner of Wine Country, is thrilled to have Vintage take over.
“Wine Country is hoping that Vintage can fill the mall with tenants,” he said. “Pierremont is such a great Mall in the heart of a great neighborhood.”
Pierremont Mall tenants currently include: Stein Mart, Toy Fair, Wine Country Bistro & Bottle Shop, Krush Boutique, Pretenses Boutique, Harper House Boutique, Happily Ever After Bridal Boutique, Carol Anglin Dance Center, Hollywood Nails, The Color Bar Salon and The Eyes Have It.
While Vintage isn’t revealing any new tenants that plan to open in Pierremont Mall, Snyder said they have begun to meet with prospective clients.
“Two weeks into the assignment, we are visiting with several different interested parties and are hopeful to visit with others as we begin to market the property for new opportunities,” Cecile Coutret, a brokerage and leasing agent for Vintage Realty, said. “It’s important to have the right tenant mix for shoppers and retailers alike.”
Snyder shared that all current tenants will remain in their fixed lease based on their lease agreement.
