2016 GREEN ARTS PARTY, New York City artist, Dennis Cady, will show his wood sculptures with an opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m at the Rainforest Art Foundation. THROUGH MARCH 27: PAPER ZOO, Recently liberated from the Norton’s vaults, these stunning images will strut, stroll, shimmer and swoop along the walls, capturing the color and spirit of these denizens of the forest and savannahs, and memory, since one of the visitors is extinct and several others are on the brink. Both famous and lesser-known artists have chosen to take a hand at capturing these wild things; Frederic Remington contributed a coyote, Antoine-Louis-Barye a tiger, and Gutzon Borglum a lion. The exhibit is located at the North Wing Corridor at R.W. Norton Art Gallery.

THROUGH MARCH 31: ART BY BRAD SMITH, The Bossier Arts Council is happy to announce Brad Smith as the latest local artist for the Emerging Artist Gallery. APRIL 2: AZALEA FESTIVAL, Plan to spend the day at the R.W. Norton Art Gallery’s Azalea Festival. Showcasing over 15,000 plants including approximately100 native and hybrid varieties of azaleas at the prime time of the year, the event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the 40-acre gardens behind the museum. While enjoying a tour through the beautiful gardens, have your garden questions answered by volunteers from Northwest Louisiana Master Gardeners, the Shreveport Garden Study Club and the Society for Louisiana Irises.

APRIL 2-MAY 15: BLOOM!, In coordination with our first ever Azalea Festival, the R.W. Norton Art Gallery will be showcasing local talent in the form of a new exhibition, BLOOM! This exhibition will focus on flowering plants and the beauty of nature.

THROUGH APRIL 30: CUTTING DOWN THE TREE OF LIFE, This two-part display, conceived by alumna Emily Fultz, contrasts vibrant Haitian “Tree of Life” paintings from the 1970s and 1980s with contemporary photographs of Haiti’s deforestation for charcoal fuel production, captured by New York City photojournalist Jonathan Auch is hosted by the Meadows Museum of Art on the Centenary College campus.

APRIL 14, 16: “SUSANNAH,” Written during the McCarthy era as a reaction to artistic persecution, Susannah is based loosely on the Apocryphal tale of Susannah and the Elders. Carlisle Floyd’s opera is a collaboration of the Hurley School of Music and Marjorie Lyons Playhouse and is the final production of MLP’s 2015-16 Why, Unto Others? season. This production is fully staged and supported by an orchestra comprised of members of the Shreveport Symphony, conducted by Kermit Poling.

APRIL 14-17, 21-23: “THE LITTLE MERMAID,” Tickets go on sale March 28 for the SBC debut of the Broadway version of Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Stage Center’s second production in their fifth anniversary season, with music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater, and a book by Doug Wright. SC’s Artistic Director, Jared Watson, will direct the production, with choreography by Katie Dupont, and musical direction by Seth Taylor.
