It's Greek to Me
Pita Combo
Yeero!!!-Yeero!!! Hard-working server impressive
318 Forum’s always-hungry reporter often has lunch at a local restaurant and tells you about the experience.
Look, I like turkey, dressing, sweet potato casserole and cranberry sauce as much as anyone. But after six weeks of eating Thanksgiving and Christmas meals — and leftovers — I was ready for something different.
How about Greek food? For years, I’ve seen Yeero!!!-Yeero!!!, a not particularly eye-catching-from-the-street restaurant (4511 Youree Drive, Shreveport) near a busy intersection. But I had never eaten there until a recent Monday, when I invited a friend to join me for a type of cuisine far different from what I had been living on during the holidays.
We met just after noon. I didn’t see a main entrance, but assumed it was in the front of the restaurant. That meant walking through two drive-thru lanes, hoping to find a door. I did. However, my friend entered through a door on the back side of the building. He, too, had to navigate drive-thru lanes. Clearly, Yeero!!!-Yeero!!! does a lot of “to-go” business.
Once inside, I was greeted by, well, no one.
After standing there for a minute or two, I seated myself. However, I soon discovered that a very nice, hardworking lady was doing just about everything. She was working in the dining room and the drive-thru, and she may even have been doing some of the cooking. All the while, she wore a pleasant smile and provided very good service.
My friend and I wanted to share an appetizer. Yeero!!!-Yeero!!! offered 10 choices, but we couldn’t quite agree on what to get. So, being the nice person I am, I let my friend do the honors. He chose hummus and pita ($4.49).
In short order, we were served a sizeable bowl of hummus, surrounded by six pieces of pita. I had tried hummus once. The keyword is “once.” It wasn’t for me. However, I know many people like it — my friend among them. He scooped hummus onto a piece of pita like I would scoop dip with one of those big Frito Scoops!
“I thought the hummus was a little on the bland side,” my friend said. He had eaten at Yeero!!!-Yeero!!! before. “I feel like I remember it tasting better, so I was a little disappointed. It just didn’t have much flavor.
The pita was nice and soft, but I think they could have served more pita, because the portion of hummus was so generous.”
I ate a couple of pieces of pita and thought they were good.

Combination Platter

Hummus and Pita
For our entrées, my friend and I had plenty of choices. Yeero!!!-Yeero!!! offered everything from sandwiches to pasta to kabobs to platters. There were even five options for vegetarians. But you know the saying, “We eat with our eyes first”? Well, a picture on the menu sold me on what to order. It was the Combination Platter ($16.49), which let me choose any two meats. I chose beef and chicken. The platter was promised to include lettuce, tomatoes, onions, a side of grilled vegetables topped with feta cheese (I asked to leave off the cheese), tzatziki, pita and a soft drink.
My friend was in the mood for a sandwich, so he ordered the Pita Combo ($12.99). My friend could choose from one of five meats — he chose lamb, which would be served on a homemade Greek pita. His meal would come with fries and a soft drink.
It couldn’t have been more than 10 minutes before the nice, hardworking lady brought our food. The presentation of both meals was impressive. My plate was filled, and my friend’s sandwich covered half his plate.
My plate was divided into three sections.
There were several strips of chicken and beef on top of a bed of lettuce, tomato and grilled onions. There was a small but good serving of grilled vegetables.
And there was tzatziki, along with pieces of pita.
I would describe my food as unremarkable. It was good, but nothing stood out. Like with my friend’s hummus, I didn’t taste much flavor. When finished, I was full, but didn’t think. “Wow, that was fantastic!”
My friend very much enjoyed his sandwich, which came with lettuce, tomatoes, marinated onions and tzatziki. “The lamb was thinly-sliced and flavorful. I ate it up. It was very filling.”
But it was the fries that caught my attention.
They were thick and appeared well-seasoned.
“They were unique in that they weren’t just seasoned with salt and pepper,” my friend (who didn’t offer me a fry) said. “They were seasoned with other stuff. I don’t know what the seasonings were, but the fries were very good.”
The cost of our meal before tax was $33.25.
Yeero!!!-Yeero!!! offers a small discount for cash, which I did not use.
I am making my first visit to Yeero!!! - Yeero!!! Three Forks. I would eat there again, as there were plenty of menu options. Thankfully, turkey, dressing, sweet potato casserole and cranberry sauce were not among them.
