Style icon Knox Goodman to be honored

Shreveport kicks off with two inaugural events on Thursday, Oct. 11, at the Scottish Rite Cathedral at 726 Cotton. A luncheon and evening cocktail show will be presented. In addition to the professional models and high style at the two runway extravaganzas, local fashion and style icon Knox Goodman will be honored.

Goodman has long been a trendsetter and leader for the area for both retail merchants and fashionistas. She graduated from Hollins College, now Hollins University, in Roanoke, Va., in 1956 and later joined the alumni board, where she met Gay Boyer and wrote to her asking to be her representative for the southern region. Goodman started with Boyer’s line on her dining room table in 1974, then rented space from the Canterbury Shoppe in 1981, eventually taking over the entire space and Knox Goodman’s Boutique was born. Goodman closed her Azalea boutique in recent years and still shares her personal style and southern charm with customers at Imelda’s Shreveport. She is well-known for personal service and thank you notes to her customers.

The event is the brain-child of Michael Turney of the Michael Turney Agency. “We really wanted to recognize Knox and also help reinvigorate the local fashion community. It’s like it doesn’t exist since the internet, and we want to help get people back in stores and revitalize the shopping experience. Our participating merchants are also offering 20 percent discounts to ticket holders on Friday and Saturday following the show,” Turney said. Merchants include Imelda’s Shreveport, Pope’s Clothiers, Carlisle, Etcetera, Yellow Ribbon and Sloan’s Formals.

Top event sponsors and organizers include Jennifer Frierson, Sid Potts, Mikey Carlisle, Michael Turney, Shuey Smith and honoree Knox Goodman.

“The venue, the Scottish Rite Cathedral, is the best-kept secret in Shreveport. It is absolutely beautiful and a perfect setting for the shows. And, we are excited about the professional models in the show. Los Angeles model and former Shreveport Malachi Wooley will work the runway as will former Givenchy model Carol Collins-Miles,” Turney said.

Either show is $75 for balcony seating, $85 main floor. Catered by Savoie’s, the seated luncheon includes wine and champagne. The evening cocktail show features heavy hors d’oeuvres and an open bar (a perfect date night, Turney says). Reservations may be made by calling 318- 221-2628 or visiting eventbrite.com. Main floor seating is limited.
