OCTOBER 12-16: THE SHREVEPORT LITTLE THEATRE GUILD presents its first virtual fundraiser, "A CHAIR-ity Event: Take Your Seat!" The online auction items will include one-of-a-kind chairs, uniquely handpainted and donated by local artists. Other silent auction items include gift certificates, items for the home, women, children and pets. OCTOBER 17: SBC ZOMBIE WALK 2020 (formerly known as the Shreveport Zombie Walk) has been on a mission to raise two things: awareness of the hunger issues in our area and non-perishable food for the Food Bank of NWLA. The theme this year is "Park Your Parts." The Zombie Walk gives attendees a fun, unique experience involving the spirit of community involvement and the pop culture phenomenon known as the “Walking Dead” – aka zombies. This family-friendly event charges no admission, and only asks that attendees come dressed in their finest zombie garb, bearing donations of non-perishable food items and maybe a few bucks to donate to whichever charity of organization of your choice. OCTOBER 23-24: AMERICAN ROSE CENTER is hosting Volunteer Day at the gardens and is seeking participation. No experience needed. Volunteers may bring available tools and should provide garden gloves. Scout troops, 4-H Clubs and church groups are encouraged to participate. OCTOBER 26: ANNUAL NORTHWEST LOUISIANA GOLF CLASSIC. Hosted by the Greater Shreveport Chamber Commerce at Southern Trace Country Club with lunch provided to the participants.This Golf Classic is a flight competition. There will be several on-the-course challenges and cash prizes, and our first-place team will be awarded the coveted Northwest LA Golf Classic traveling trophy. OCTOBER 31: RUN FOR YOUR PIE! Southfield School will host three different races (10K/5K/Fun Run), and every participant will be rewarded with delicious pie at the finish line. 10K and 5K start times will be staggered to promote social distancing and participant safety. You will choose your wave start time when registering. Familyfriendly costumes are welcomed and encouraged – you may even win a gift card! Virtual runs will be live until Oct. 30. 10K top finishers will receive a cash prize and a commemorative glass. 5K top finishers will receive a gift card and a commemorative glass. Age group top finishers (men and women) will receive a commemorative glass. Funds raised will be used to support faculty benefits, professional development, lab and athletic departments, classroom upgrades, facility and campus needs, security and safety at Southfield School. THROUGH OCTOBER 31: SHREVEPORT AQUARIUM will offer a haunted pirate adventure with chills, thrills and, of course, gills with its month-long Halloween celebration. This event is appropriate for kids of all ages during the day before 5 p.m., and a scarier “After Dark” version will be available on weekends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. for ages 12+. A giant kraken will greet at the entrance, and the inside will be transformed into a pirate ship with 3D shipwrecks, silhouettes, pirate skeletons, fog, obstacles, glowing eyes and so much more. This is a COVID-friendly pirate adventure. Daytime admission prices are $15 for ages 13+, $12 for ages 3-12, and kids 2 and under are free. On Friday and Saturday evenings from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. beginning Oct. 9, NecroManor actors “Creeps of the Deep” will be on site providing the scare of a lifetime for those who are not faint of heart. Tickets for the After Dark attractions are $20 and must be purchased in advance. Recommended age is 12+. Limited tickets are available due to COVID-19 and guest must wear face coverings and are encouraged to social distance while touring the facility.
