The Caddo-Bossier Cancer Foundation League’s eighth annual Kentucky Derby Party was held May 4 at the home of Mary Ann and Terry Elston. Many women wore decorative hats. There were wine pulls, jewelry grab boxes and pick-a-number games. Monique Dennie and Susan Shelby had the vision for the foundation. The league is dedicated to making life easier for patients undergoing treatment for cancer. The organization provides such assistance as transportation, gas cards, lodging and personal items. Willis-Knighton Health System was the trophy sponsor. – Mary Ann Van Osdell

Dancing for the Cure was hosted at the Horseshoe Riverdome and featured five local celebrities who worked with Vicki’s School of Dance to prepare and perform a dance routine unique to who they are and how their life has been touched by breast cancer.

All proceeds from Dancing for the Cure benefit Susan G. Komen Louisiana to provide education, outreach, screening and support as well as breast cancer research. This year’s People’s Choice Winner was Waynette Ballengee, and the Judge’s Choice was Morgan Lang. – Mary Ann Van Osdell

The Cotillion Club hosted the annual Holiday In Dixie Cotillion at Municipal Auditorium in downtown Shreveport. This year’s theme was “Istanbul: The City of Majesty at the Crossroads of the World.” This year’s Rex LXXI was Andrew Querbes IV, and Regina LXXI was Amy Lea Burke. – Mark Crawford

More than 150 Northwest Louisiana visual artists exhibited their “best” during Shreveport Regional Arts Council’s annual open invitational exhibition: Critical Mass 7. Artists were competing for Best of Show. Nationally renowned critic Ann Hackett attended and professionally critiqued each artist and made the selection for the Best of Show Visual Artist, Linda Dickson Moss. Artwork is on display at Artspace in downtown Shreveport. – Mark Crawford
