Derby Day Festival: The front lawn of the R.W. Norton Art Gallery in historic South Highlands again played host to the second Shreveport Derby Day Festival May 7. More than 1,000 people spent the afternoon enjoying mint juleps, served by Wine Country Bistro & Bottle Shop, and mid-afternoon snacks, provided Rhino Coffee and Buttercups Cupcakes. There was a network of large television screens that displayed the Kentucky Derby race. Rebirth Brass Band from New Orleans provided the musical entertainment.

ebecca Edwards, a senior law clerk for Judge James E. Stewart of the Louisiana Second Circuit Court of Appeal and a breast cancer survivor, enjoys working with people, and her love for the community made her the perfect fit for this year’s 2015 Honorary Chair for the Baron’s Ball.

Charisse Gibson of KSLA was chosen by the judges as the winner of the first “Dancing for the Cure” on April 4 at the Horseshoe Riverdome. She was among six broadcast personalities in the contest competing to win the Pink Mirror Ball trophy.

Highland Neighborhood vibe pays homage to carnival season

This year’s Krewe of Highland parade will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 15 and is free and open to the public. The parade runs through the heart of the historic Highland neighborhood, where the architecture and openness of the diverse people who live and work there give it a distinct feel that delights visitors.
