The 2018-2019 Arts Season literally fills the calendar with front row seats at the theatre, evenings at the opera, the sounds of a symphony, the drumbeat of downtown, the fun of a festival and the gala of an art gallery opening. “The vibrant Art scene in Northwest Louisiana is very impressive. People across the country are constantly amazed at all that is happening in our region of the state,” said Pam Atchison, executive director of the Shreveport Regional Arts Council. “Actually, if you took every Art program in Northwest Louisiana – all the weeks of theater, music, dance, visual Art exhibitions, literary readings and independent film and placed them on one contiguous ‘calendar,’ there would be more than 1,100 separate days of Art in our region! Most of the events are totally free … and those that have a ticket price are for the most part easily under $30,” added Atchison.

• It may take eight days a week to celebrate all that is happening in the Arts in September – Critical Mass 6 Solo Shows, Bossier Arts Council’s DigiFest, Creole Heritage Center’s 20th Anniversary Celebration, Agora Borealis’ Cirque du Lake Street Festival, Cultural Crossroads’ Minden Makers’ Fair, Feist-Weiller Cancer Center Arts in Medicine Life Savers Ball, and Renzi Center’s 13th Annual Bunco Bash and Silent Auction, to name a few.
• Jump into the “Hunt for Red” in October with colorful events such as the Red River Revel Arts Festival and Prize Fest Weekend.
• Tonight, tonight, certainly won’t be just any night in November when the Shreveport Opera performs “West Side Story” and Oasis of Hope Louisiana presents a Film Showcase.
• Make it a “Charlie Brown Christmas” at the Strand Theatre in December and give your regards to Christmas in the Sky Broadway with SRAC’s internationally award-winning biennial gala.
• Resolve to enjoy more Arts and Culture in January starting by “Springing into History at the Spring Street Museum” with Robert Trudeau.
• Put your heart into the Arts all 28 days of February with the North Central Louisiana Arts Council’s #50@$50 Art Exhibition and its Mardi Gras Ball & Silent Auction.
• Throw caution to the wind and blow Art & Culture your way in March as Shufflin’ Along explodes with dance during the 7th Annual Dance Explosion Dance Workshop, the R.W. Norton Art Gallery cascades with color at BLOOM! Festival and the Academy of Children’s Theatre’s presents “The Little Mermaid Jr.”
• Dance down the yellow brick road with the Shreveport Metropolitan Ballet as they present “The Wizard of Oz” at the Strand in April and experience the dramatic staging of the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra’s performance of “Bach’s St. Matthew Passion” on Palm Sunday.
• In the “merry month of May,” all non-profits are thinking about “Give for Good,” but there is also excitement over the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum’s Project Talent.
• June is the month to say, “I do” to the Mahogany Ensemble Theatre’s production of “Crumbs from the Table of Joy,” and summer art camps throughout the Arts organizations including Noel Community Arts Program Kids Camp.
• July is the month to see stars and to set off fireworks, but nothing makes a bigger splash this summer than the Stage Center Louisiana’s presentation of Disney “Newsies: The Broadway Musical” and the Shreveport Little Theatre’s special summer musical “Mamma Mia!”
• August is HOT! HOT! HOT! When the Mahogany Theatre spells it out for you with “Akeelah and the Bee.”
