“An Extraordinary Fashion and Style Show Luncheon” was presented by the Woman’s Department Club on Sept. 15 at their historic headquarters at 802 Margaret Place. Dillard’s Department Store’s fashions were featured on the runway. Decorated for fall by Wendy Harper of Wendy’s Decorating Details, the elegant setting welcomed close to 100 ladies the event. Vivian caterer Billie Goodson provided the menu, and guests dined on potato soup, chicken salad served on baby spinach leaves, homemade biscuits and luscious cheesecake adorned with fresh fruit. Funds raised are for painting the exterior of the building in celebration of their 100th anniversary.

Guests attending the 2016 Feist-Weiller Cancer Center Gala at Sam’s Town Casino and Hotel on Aug. 10 were dazzled by a colorful and whimsically themed event: Sauveteurs de la Vie, which translates to “Life Savers” in French. Now in its 19th year, proceeds from the event fund the Idea Grant program at FWCC, designed to help the researchers at FWCC and LSU Health Shreveport develop their ideas to combat cancer in their individual areas of expertise.
All Life Saver funds remain in Shreveport. Since 1998, 32 Idea Grants have been awarded for a total of $1,435,500. Of those Idea Grant recipients, 20 have successfully competed for state, national or privately funded grants bringing $14.3 million back into the community.
