The Shreveport Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual awards luncheon, sponsored by the J. Pat Beaird Memorial Fund, in downtown Shreveport on Aug. 24. This event recognizes a corporate entity from the Greater Shreveport area for its outstanding business achievements. It allows the Chamber to bring nationally recognized speakers to our area.
This year’s business of the year was Querbes and Nelson.
This year’s guest speaker was Colonel Greg Gadson, who lost both legs in Iraq in 2007. – Mark Crawford
It was a fantastic Saturday night celebrating at the Krewe of Centaur Midway to Mardi Gras Bal. The theme was “Fly Away With Centaur” and was held at Riverview Hall (the heat was brutal as the A/C was out, but the Krewe partied on with music, libations and a tableau). – Photos by Paul Savage
A Night with Elvis at Sci-Port on Aug. 24 took attendees down memory lane as special guests Johnny Wessler, local music historian, and Dianne Harmon, founder and president of the Elvis Angels Fan Club, shared their stories about Elvis Presley. A special screening of “Elvis” was shown in the Goodman IMAX Dome. Displays and James Burton memorabilia could be viewed. There was also an Elvis-inspired signature cocktail. – Mary Ann Van Osdell
