On April 21, EasterSeals Louisiana hosted their annual after-dinner fundraiser, Chocolate and Champagne, at the DiamondJacks Grand Ballroom. More than a dozen local restaurants provided delicious chocolate desserts while fountains of champagne flowed for guests to enjoy. Each year, EasterSeals recognizes a local citizen who’s made a difference in the community with the Lily Award. The 2018 Lily Award recipient was Waynette Ballengee. Money raised from the event provides support to thousands of families across the state.

In April, the Shreveport Regional Arts Council revealed the theme of this year’s Christmas in the Sky: Sky Broadway. Christmas in the Sky is the biennial fund-raiser produced by the Arts Council. Hosted at Louisiana Downs, the building is transformed to immerse guests into whatever the theme is each year. This year, Christmas in the Sky is Dec. 8.

In April, the Red River Revel hosted their annual wine festival, CORK, at Festival Plaza in downtown Shreveport. The event is in its 13th year, and this year was the coldest on record, with a high of 46 degrees. The event featured more than 80 wines from around the world and food from local restaurants like Primo Gelato Cafe, We Olive, The Port Grill and Tejas. All money raised benefits the Red River Revel Arts Festival.

Riverdancing: In March, The Strand Theatre hosted the 20th Anniversary World Tour of Riverdance. Shreveport was one of 60 stops on the U.S. tour. The show featured custom lighting, costumes and new musical numbers never before seen in the United States. – Mark Crawford

Cask and Cocoa: A collaboration of Drake Catering and the R.W. Norton Art Gallery, Cask was held April 20 at Norton Square. The fourcourse dinner brought out the best of red wines from around the world while highlighting the cocoa bean at different points of its production. Between courses there were games and/or challenge issues with prizes—emceed by Lauren Vizza. The menu included: Cocoa Nib Ca Tai Chanh (a Vietnamese Style Ceviche) and a Peruvian Malbec, Smoked Chicken LA Dark Chocolate Molé and a Spanish Grenache, Cocoa Rub Beef Rib and a Washington State Merlot and Doma Chocolat and a California Zinfandel. – Mary Ann Van Osdell

Croquet Classic: The Community Renewal Croquet Classic began with testimonies of those helped. The event supports the Adult Renewal Academy. The event was held on April 28 at LSUS. Players dress in white – a croquet tradition – and come in all ages and skill levels. There are two playing divisions – recreational and competitive. – Mary Ann Van Osdell
