The Shreveport-Bossier African-American Chamber of Commerce hosted their annual meeting and reception Feb. 19 at the Horseshoe Casino Riverdome in Bossier City. The evening began with a VIP reception, which allowed attendees to mingle with the award recipients and keynote speaker Margarita “Maggie” Anderson, the author of “The Empowerment Experiment.” Several special awards were given out including John H. Wilson Trailblazer Award to Markey Pierre and the Herschel Brown Civil Rights Award to the Rev. H. Calvin Austin. The Shreveport-Bossier African-American Chamber has been a part of the Shreveport-Bossier City community for over 70 years, working to enhance and enrich the city, community and residents.
