The Art of the Cocktail gave guests opportunities to purchase items from local artists and taste unique drinks. It was hosted by Nader’s Gallery on Sept. 12. The cocktail-themed art showcase invited local artists of all skill levels to create an original work on canvas inspired by the art of cocktails. Mixologists in Shreveport-Bossier created such drinks as Calaverita and mandarin bourbon. Artists received 100 percent of their sale proceeds. – Mary Ann Van Osdell

Walking into the 30th Annual Auction Against AIDS benefit for the Philadelphia Center reminded guests of an Audrey Hepburn movie. “Diamonds and Pearls” was the theme, and many women wore the pertinent jewelry. It was held Aug. 17 at Sam’s Town Hotel and Casino. Silent auction bidding was done by texting. A Holly Golightly booze raffle was among fun activities as was The Little Black Dress fashion contest. The signature cocktail was called Tiffany Blue, and centerpieces featured pearls, sunglasses and gift boxes in that color. – Mary Ann Van Osdell
