Carrabba’s Italian Grill

This article will be a little different from what I usually write. Once or twice a month, the local Carrabba’s Italian Grill hosts a wine dinner. Each dinner has a different theme with different offerings, but they always include great food and they always include wine. My date and I attended the “Night of the Living Red” Halloween-themed dinner and loved it.

What we tried:

Meatballs & Ricotta – Hand-rolled meatballs simmered in their housemade pomodoro sauce, topped with ricotta and Romano cheese, served with buttered toast. This was the perfect way to start off the four-course meal. This appetizer was paired with a glass of Dark Horse Cabernet Sauvignon, which had a dry feel with layers of dark berry fruit with hints of chocolate and espresso.

Calabrian Penne with Burrata – Penne pasta sautéed with spicy Calabrian chile tomato sauce and topped with creamy burrata cheese. This pasta dish had the perfect amount of kick. This course was paired with Freakshow Cabernet Sauvignon, which had rich, ripe and oaky flavors of sweet blackberries, cherries, cinnamon and wood smoke.

Tuscan Grilled Sirloin – Six-ounce sirloin basted with their signature blend of herbs and spices and served with garlic aioli. This was my first time having a steak at Carrabba’s, but it won’t be my last. Very flavorful and very good. The third course was paired with Apothic Red Blend, which had fruit aromas with flavors of rhubarb, black cherry and subtle hints of mocha.

Chocolate Cannolis – Two large, crispy pastry shells dipped in chocolate stuffed with sweet chocolate ricotta and paired with Sixth Sense Petite Syrah, which had notes of dark fruit, spice and earthy flavors. This was the perfect ending to a great dinner.

The best part is that almost everything served at the wine dinners is available on their regular menu anytime!
