Always Best Care put together stockings for 20 random homeless people and gave them out Dec. 11. Shreveport Periodontics donated toothbrushes and toothpaste, Brookshire’s donated apple juice boxes and granola bars, and Always Best Care Shreveport/Bossier donated water bottles, hand warmers and a new pair of socks. The James Burton International Guitar Festival presented James Burton’s “Rockin’ Louisiana Christmas” concert Dec. 21 at Margaritaville Casino. Marty Haggard was a surprise guest, and Jo-El Sonnier, Wayne Toups and Estelle Brown were on stage playing Christmas and Louisiana music. Guitars were presented on behalf of children and veterans. Burton received a Louisiana Senate resolution for recently celebrating his 80th birthday. – Mary Ann Van Osdell

The Deaf Action Center of Louisiana hosted their biennial fundraiser Las Vegas Night at the Petroleum Club in downtown Shreveport. The 16th floor was transformed into a casino, complete with table games where you could win chips to bid on silent auction items. Sci-Port created a whole new experience at the museum called Sno-Port. There, guests can experience a snowfall, discover the science behind snowfl akes, ride in a moving rocket ship that appears to fly over a snowcovered Shreveport and more. Opening weekend was during the Rockets Over the Red Festival downtown, and SciPort also hosted a rooftop fi reworks viewing party. – Mark Crawford
