Bravo!: In July, the Shreveport Little Theatre hosted its 14th annual Bravo! Awards with more than 100 people on hand. Awards like Best Mainstage Production went to “The Addams Family,” Best Actor in a Featured Role went to Sloan Folmer and Best Actress in a Featured Role went to Debbie Posey. Ernest’s Orleans Restaurant provided the delicious dinner for the event.

Hilman House Dedication: The Hilman House, along with the surrounding grounds was officially donated July 25 to Community Renewal International. The Hilman House was named in honor of Dr. Bettina Hilman, a Shreveport cystic fibrosis specialist.

Petroleum Club: The Petroleum of Shreveport hosted its 65th anniversary party July 30 in the 16th floor dining room. In addition to a collection of photos showcasing 65 years at the club, there were delicious buffets of food, tasty drinks and a towering chocolate and vanilla cake themed like an oil derrick. For entertainment, custom ice sculptures were carved by Chef Eddie Mars in front of party guests.

Atlas: The Krewe of Atlas held its coronation July 31 at the Shreveport Convention Center. The ball will be Jan. 15. Matthew Hammock and Amanda Smith will serve as King and Queen VIII. L.J. Thomas is captain. Duchesses will be Ruth Burdges, Rita Harris, Tommie Johnson and Tracy Mendels. Dukes will be Marty Hawkins and John Pumilio. The krewe tried something new with its silent auction this year; those with their name on the fifth line were automatically entered into a grand prize drawing for a stay at the Hilton the night of the ball, six-hour limousine service and gift certificates to restaurants.

ThinkFirst: The five finalists in the ThinkFirst Draw Down winners decided to split the $5,000 prize at the ninth annual event, held Aug. 6 at East Ridge Country Club. ThinkFirst presents programs to encourage youth to use their mind to protect their body. The Western-themed event also featured a silent and live auction.
