Knox: After styling women for 35 years, Knox Goodman has announced her retirement and has closed her boutique. A celebration was held Nov. 30 at the store on Azalea Drive in Shreveport. Drinks and hors d’oeuvres were served from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. honoring Goodman and everything she has accomplished. Her three daughters from Atlanta, Pensacola and Houston attended, as well as lifelong friends from out of town. The store closed the end of December.

Book-signing: Former Shreveporter and Forum writer Cathey Graham Nickell has written “Arthur Zarr’s Amazing Art Car,” which she debuted at a signing Dec. 3 at the home of Paige Wolfe and Dec. 5 at a public signing at Toy Fair. Learn more about her book online at www.catheynickell.com.

Las Vegas Night: Line Avenue’s Wine Country Bistro was transformed into a swanky casino Dec. 12 for the Deaf Action Center’s fundraiser Las Vegas Night. There were a collection of silent auction items as well as live auction items up for grabs.

Birthday: Dodie Horton, state representative-elect, was surprised for her birthday two days early at Biscotti’s. Her sister, Melinda Kent, planned the party. Among attendees were her mother, daughters and future staff. Her birthday was two days later. Pictures of Horton’s childhood lined the table, and dessert was from Nothing Bundt Cakes.

WK Party: Willis-Knighton hosted its annual Doctors Christmas Party on Dec. 8 at the WK Eye Institute. This year’s party featured elaborate decorations made by hospital staff members. The extensive buffet of delicious food, catered by in-house staff members, featured sushi, Italian, Chinese and sweet treats for dessert.
