on the SCENE
The third annual Shreveport Derby Day was a full-on hit again this year. Socializing under the pines wearing hats and fancy dress brought a buzz of chatter and lots of style to the outdoor party. The R.W. Norton Art Gallery was the scene of the event in early May, and entertainment included John Lisi & Delta Funk! from New Orleans. Food was provided by Drake Catering, spirits by Wine Country Bistro and beer by Great Raft Brewing. Organizers of the event include Matt Snyder, Grant Nuckolls, Andrew Crawford, and Lewis and Ruth Norton. Hats off to all!
-- Mark CrawfordThe Caddo-Bossier Cancer Foundation League’s sixth annual Kentucky Derby Party was beautifully decorated at the Provenance home of Dr. and Mrs. Chris Shelby on May 6. An arch of red roses greeted guests, who when checking in could buy a $20 souvenir mint julep cup to get free refills and keep the cup. Many women broke out their brightest hats. The group is dedicated to making life easier for patients undergoing treatment for cancer and provides such assistance as transportation, lodging and personal items. They will also be creating Christmas baskets for patients. Willis-Knighton Health Systems was the trophy sponsor.
